Culinary Masters In The Making

Monday, May 22, 2017

We couldn’t let South African talent go to waste. Now, we provide opportunities for talented chefs to master the art of the kitchen.

South Africa boasts talented chefs from all walks of life but, unfortunately, not all of them are given the opportunity to receive formal training and turn their culinary passion into a career. For this reason, we decided to partner with the South African Chefs Association (SACA) and School of Culinary Art to drive an Enterprise Development Programme aimed at township caterers.

“The objective is not only to have a Creating Shared Value (CSV) programme for informal catering entrepreneurs but also to develop the informal catering channel by establishing our Food and Beverages brands in this channel to create brand loyalty.”
Roelof Stapel – Nestlé Professional Country Business Manager

Two groups of 14 students each were given weekly theoretical and practical sessions for three months. Additionally, the students were provided with chef uniforms and course material for the duration of the programme. The combined efforts of Nestlé Professional, SACA and the students, culminated in a group of 28 budding chefs, armed with the knowledge to train their employees and grow their businesses to one day become Nestlé Professional brand ambassadors.

“This is an opportunity for us in the future. We will partner with them when developing products and doing activities with customers on customer days, as they will be our brand ambassadors.”
Beatrice Milani – Nestlé Professional Food Category Manager
